About the LEAP Framework

Learning, Education & Professionalism

The LEAP Framework is a way for us to understand and describe the diverse roles and the wide range of skills, knowledge, attitudes and attributes that are now considered to be part of being a medical professional today.

By having a shared understanding of CPD, the medical profession can work together in developing and improving CPD opportunities for specialists.

What is the aim of the Project?

To test the usefulness and validity of the LEAP framework in practice. By doing so, we can understand its relevance and useability to medical specialists. This will involve a sample of Fellows from eight medical colleges undertaking a trial of the project within the specified time.

Why participate in the trial?

Recent developments suggest that participation in continuing professional development and evidence of your competency and expertise in a range of domains, will be linked to a National Approach to Specialist Registration. This is your chance to help shape the development of an Australian based program that incorporates the broad roles of your practice and that will satisfy statutory requirements.

What are the benefits of participating?

By participating in this trial, you will

  • have input into shaping an Australian based CPD program that may be applied to all medical specialists across a range of disciplines and practice settings
  • have the opportunity to identify and influence the content and delivery of new CPD activities that you feel would be helpful in meeting your professional development needs
  • enter your points on-line, via your college website, saving you time and paperwork
  • have the opportunity to trial activities that may not have been available to you previously.
What level of commitment is involved?

To participate, Fellows will be expected to

  • have internet access to record learning plans and CPD activities that are undertaken during the trial period
  • contribute ideas for CPD activities that might be developed during the trial period
  • obtain 50 points or credits on CPD activities for the 12-month trial period
  • undertake CPD activities in three different areas
  • undertake approximately 10 points or credits in a level 3 activity
  • comment on any new activities that have been developed for the trial
  • respond to a survey/interview to help us evaluate the applicabilty of the framework to your practice
